Very expensive. Small rice and meat stew me and my wife had the same like dish we end up paying $48 dollars😳😳😳and the food was not even good
MoreExcellent food with great vegetarian options
Greatly exceeded my expectations. I tried the bread, a Lamb dish, a vegetarian dish, coffee/tea, and dessert. Everything was perfectly seasoned, with some unique flavors that were surprisingly delicious. The entree portion sizes are a bit smaller than average for the price but the quality of the food more than makes up for this. Friendly staff and cozy environment too.
MoreIt was good. A bit slow and got charged for bread that we didn’t ask for...
Delicious food with vegetarian options. First time having Afghani food and we enjoyed it. Had fried lentil appetizers, eggplant and spinach-based dishes with rice. They had typical brand beers and wine but no cocktails (even though the menu says they have them). Staff friendly and attentive. Decent atmosphere. Food was a bit pricey ($15-17 for most dishes) but worth it for something different.
MoreThe service was amazing. Atmosphere was nice. Food was incredible Presentation was ok. But overall definitely will go again!
MoreCozy restaurant with delicious food. In our group the afghani salad, sauteed pumpkin, and ice cream with rosewater and cardamon were big hits. Will definitely go back on my next visit to DC.
MoreHad a very bad time here. The room was warm due to poor cooling even though the restaurant is basically a small room. To get to the bathroom you have to go upstairs which is also dirty. The service was very slow, prices were very high compaired to the food quantity and had no taste. They say the food is Halal yet it is not written anywhere in the restaurant or the menu. Will never come back here. Do not recommend at all.
MoreLoved the Turkish coffee. Food is decent enough
Tasty halal food, small portions, little expensive however they also serve alcoholic beverages which I encourage to not to drink.
MoreWe ordered take out and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
Great spot! I strongly recommend it!
I have been to Afghan restaurants in many countries. So far, this is the worst place in my entire life. This place does not represent Afghan food. Please read comments made by Afghans and then make your decision. The worst food ever
MoreHonestly we loved this small hidden restaurant. The manager and servers were amazing, warm, and funny. They were very welcoming to my large, loud, and energetic family and friends 😂 . The food was great, and I am very picky. I have never had Afghan food and am now very open to try something new again.
MoreI was in the area on sunday and we decide to go to Afghan grill for dinner. First of all they are very over priced for the amount of food you get. We order the mantu, bologna, and the meat samosas. The mantu barely had any meat in it all I tasted was onions. The bologna seemed like it was fry in cold oil cause it was soaked in oil. The somosas was burned and also absolutely no meat in it. They took a half a bologna and sliced up in little pieces. My husband ordered the mix combo the lamb wasnt cooked the shrimp tasted like it was boil. Overall the food was horrible. I wouldn't recommend this place. I'm an Afghan and I know this place wasnt owned by an afghan, cause Afghan wouldn't serve food like that. On top of all that they serve alcohol. If I would have know I wouldn't have gone there and spend my money.
MoreExcellent food. Excellent services. Came from Chicago...
I would have given zero star to this place if possible unfortunately that is not the case here and I had to end up goving it 1 star. Worst afghani food ever tasted by me look at the picture this is how returned the plate the left over which looks almost full in the picture is because i couldn’t eat anymore even though I was starving. Chicken was mixed with lamb, staff changed the plate first time then came the new plate but was still mixed with lamb. FAKE OVER EXPENSIVE NOWHERE CLOSE TO AFGHAN CUISINE
MoreYou can find the best authentic Afghan food here. The owner was VERY kind, professional, and helpful. Food was really delicious and the service was great. Everything was clean and neat and the sound of music added up to the taste of food and excellent customer service. Thanks for everything!!!! I really recommend this place for any type of get together or meetings in addition to casual dining with friends and family.November 24, 2019
MoreThe food is good and pricing is fare. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Staff were very accommodating. My issues are the entrance is on second floor and the temprature was hot.
MoreNo worries, y'all exceeded my expectations. My bad I thought it was another grill restaurant
MoreNice view. Beef items recommended
I had a particularly fun experience because of the hospitality of the staff and owner. The food is good and is reminiscent of Greek and Indian cuisine. I can recommend the Mantoo dumplings and the pureed pumpkin.
MoreWe love coming here on Friday nights. This restaurant is a perfect balance of very decent prices and absolutely fabulous atmosphere with white tablecloths and fine dining. The owner speaks many languages and always very good about offering a little free be like an appetizer. I like being recognized by him and have my own special table :)))
MoreNo. I'm not even Afghani and I can tell you this is not good Afghani food. Just not good food. I don't like to write bad reviews as you can see from my history. If I don't like a place I just don't go back. I hope this can serve as a wake up call to the owners. Service was fine and our waiter was extremely friendly. The food was not worth what we paid. I can get a lamb over rice that tastes way better for $6. Everything tasted like it was cooked and then just reheated. The salad tasted and looked like it was made the day before. Kofta was certainly cooked and reheated on grill. Rice most likely microwaved. Also silverware and glasses were dirty. Nope not again.
MoreWhat amazing food! Seasoned so well. Beautiful location. We ate there twice. After the first time we knew we could trust the food to be made well and to be tasty. The owner is so nice! I recommend sharing the platter to have a variety of items!! We got it without the meat sauce for my vegetarian friend. I wish I had a restaurant like this near me. Go eat here!!!
MoreExpensive prices comparing with the amount of food and the taste wasn’t that good. Also, the service literally was terrible. I get to the restaurant with no sounds and then group of people came and made the worker plays DJ with much noisy. I asked him to lower the volume but he doesn’t!. Worst restaurant experience
MoreSat down for a late dinner and told the waiter to bring me what he would order... Did not disappoint! Kadu Buranee, Lamb Chops, Firnee... All perfectly paired with hand picked wines and Cardamom Tea. Attentive staff, lovely atmosphere. You need to try this place for a romantic date or quiet evening meal.
MoreHighly recommend. Every single did was delicious. First time dining Afghani cuisine - glad we did. Wait staff extremely courteous and gracious. Great dining experience.
MoreTerrible, salty food - seemed reheated. Dirty glasses and utensils. Would never go back.
MoreGreat halal food!
Eating this food was like making a new friend. Well more like a pen pal because I'm not from here. The food was fantastic. Also the waiter had the best suggestions for food. We WILL be going back before we leave. Make a new friend at Afghan Grill!
MoreBest food I've had in DC all week. The Khorma Chalao had rich flavors and tender chicken. Will make a return visit on my next trip to DC...GO CARDS
MoreThe food is okay. The palao was not traditional as it was their regular rice with some carrots and raisins on top. The kabobs were good. Do not come here if you can't walk up stairs. Slow service and bathrooms had no running water.
MoreChicken kabobs were plump and juicy, not over grilled like the kabobs I had later that week at a Turkish restaurant. I couldn't put my finger on the seasoning, but it was delicious. Plan to return on my next business trip.
MoreGood food, friendly service.
Delicious food and fast service
Fabulous food nice service. Great new foods to try and experiment. Great flavours.
MoreFood is alright. Staff is approachable. However, after the bill payment while asking for a receipt staff seemed unprepared. Once a copy was printed and provided I was able to see around 15 dollar tip on the bill which I wasn't asked about. Staff first said this is the service charge. Later he said, the manager have put that in the computer while preparing our bill and the staff are never paid the tip. Also staff salary is not adequate. These experience seemed dodgy to me and I won't go back again to be played or scammed by staff and management.
MoreCozy comfort with exvellent food and friendly staff.
Decent place for Afghan food. I very much enjoyed the Bulanee and Mantoo appetizers. We ordered the lamb pulao and the beef kabob entrees. Unfortunately, the staff forgot that we had ordered the pulao and only brought out the kabob dish. We ended up cancelling the pulao dish because it had been 1 hour since we ordered and we had to head out. The beef kabob dish was pretty good. Glad to know that all the meat served here is Halal (although ironic that they unfortunately also serve alcohol here as well). All in all, it was pretty good food but under average service. Probably wouldn't return here again.
MoreGood food and well decorated!
Went for lunch on a workday. Service was quick and we were in and out in less than an hour. Both of us enjoyed our food. My lamb dish came in a flavorful sauce. The rice was perfectly cooked. Bread was provided with spicey dip to eat while waiting for our lunch to be prepared.
MoreAn amazing mixture of skilled kabob and grilled meats as well as traditional Afghan home cooking. I can never decide between the dumplings or the kabobs, but I dont have to because most entrees have appetizer portions. This place is a must for all mMediterranean food lovers.
MoreConveniently located just a few minutes walk from the Omni hotel, my wife and I felt like trying Afghan food for the first time. The staff were super kind and accommodating to our ignorance of the food and made recommendations for both of us to share. The taste was absolutely amazing! My wife and I highly recommend giving it a try!
MoreVegetable combo was fantastic and delicious. Highly recommend it. Good service, the owner is such a nice guy.
MoreLam chop with rice is excellent! The owner is a very friendly guy.
We stopped here kind of on a whim. The staff were super attentive, almost doting on us. I almost worried that they were on the edge of going out of business because they were so happy to see us it seemed like we were saving them! But I think that is the regular service. The food was very good, as well. Maybe a bit more expensive than I was thinking, but it was a lot of food and completely worth it.
MoreOur server was very accommodating, even offering options to make some menu items vegetarian for our party of non meat eaters. However there were plenty of delicious choices without having to change a thing. There were plenty of meat options on the menu in addition. Would definitely return for lunch or dinner here.
MorePortions are nice, price is competitive, and the food is delicious! There is so much flavor and the kabob is not overcooked at all. Everything down to the rice is seasoned and cooked wonderfully. I ordered delivery from them and my only issue was something that actually was the fault of the delivery service. Even so, when I called the owner answered and was very patient and generous even though the mistake was not his fault. I won’t be in D.C long enough to order again this trip, but I look forward to eating from this restaurant again in the future.Edit: AND I was so excited that the menu is quite authentic.
MoreWhenever attending the AAG conference, we have meeting there!
